About Me

Greg

What can I say?

I’m a 29 year old guy living in South Australia with my other half and a rabbit with a bad attitude.

Work:
I’ve been working in IT for the last 7 years in all sorts of positions, however I seem to have a knack for large scale project implementations and system administration. To make life more interesting, I’m currently learning the networking game to round out my resume.

What I’m interested in:
Photography, music, movies, technology, cooking, making things do more than their manufacturer intended, debating a topic (almost any topic that anyone is foolish enough to get me either interested in or started on) and coffee.

Not necessarily in that order – coffee usually comes first :)

What I listen to:
While working, trance music appears in the playlist more than anything else. An excellent sample of this style is available from Digitally Imported’s Vocal Trance channel

Various podcasts provide entertainment for the daily commute

What I’m reading:
Blink by Malcolm Gladwell.

This is a really interesting guy with some amazing revelations on human behaviour and decision making. I highly recommend investing an hour listening to his speech at SXSW from March 2005 to get an idea of what he’s on about and some of the content in Blink.

What I am currently messing with:
Photoshop. I’ve been meaning to invest some serious time to learn this for ages

What’s on the to-do plate:
Mostly programming stuff – learn PHP, XHTML, CSS and JavaScript for AJAX work and get back into Java, Perl, shell scripting and database programming.

Oh, and finish restoring a piece of furniture that I’ve been meaning to get around to for months

Web Honours:
My first honour was a Blogger’s Prodâ„¢ presented in October, 2005 for being too slack with updating my blog. I received this dubious honour from Adrian, who is too slack to start his own:

The Blogger's Prod (tm)

The next was the stylish Striped Propeller Cap; presented in February, 2005 by Cindy the Squipper of Dusting My Brain fame for convincing the rest of the connected world to leave her poor webserver alone (well, one particular corner of it) and for teaching the old girl some new tricks (the server, not Cindy :) ).

SysAdmin to the Stars
